The project has been funded under the Commonwealth Government\u2019s Non-Government Reform Support Fund.<\/h2>\r\n<h3 class=\"page_small_title\">Families Matter<\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\r\n<ul>The research is clear that while schools play an important role, the major influences on student outcomes lie outside the school gate. In this context, families play a critical role in establishing the foundations upon which children develop as happy, successful and confident learners. The role of the family in the development of literacy and numeracy skills in the early years (from birth to age 8) is particularly important.<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3 class=\"page_small_title\">This resource has been designed to:<\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>assist educators engage families in the early learning of their children;\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>assist families and educators reflect on how children learn at home and at school;<\/li>\r\n<li>provide practical, evidence-based activities to support literacy and numeracy skills;<\/li>\r\n<li>support the acquisition of early literacy and numeracy skills through \u2018everyday\u2019 activities;<\/li>\r\n<li>help children to acquire early literacy and numeracy skills aligned to the NSW Syllabus and the Early Years Learning Framework; and<\/li>\r\n<li>reinforce Catholic schools\u2019 commitment to work in partnership with all families to support children\u2019s learning and wellbeing.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3 class=\"page_small_title\">Acknowledgement<\/h3>\r\n<p>This project has benefited greatly from the expertise and wisdom of the early years consultants and teachers across our Catholic schools.
